There’s something about your student moving off campus for the first time that can give your student (and you) a few extra jitters. An apartment or house comes with a whole new level of independence, which is great, but I’m also a fan of adding a few simple things that can give both you AND your student a little extra peace of mind. I’ve talked about the She’s Birdie personal safety alarm before (great for carrying around campus), but the Birdie Box caught my attention because this one is designed for when they’re INSIDE their apartment or house. It’s a temporary door alarm, and if someone opens the door while it’s armed, it sounds a VERY loud 130-decibel siren and flashes a bright strobe light. Installation is super simple. Just attach the adhesive strips to the door, line up the two pieces, turn it on, and you’re set. 💡 Pro Tip: If they have roommates, make sure everyone knows when the alarm is armed so no one accidentally sets it off coming home late at night! I especially like this for nights when everyone is home or when your student is home alone and wants that extra layer of security.
